You ask for an introduction, well this is rather long I know, but it is interesting and contains many hard learned lessons you may perhaps find helpful.

I have a fascinating story to tell and one that shows the strange turns on the road of a spiritual traveller, as well as some of the history of Krishna consciousness.

I started my journey in 1965 when I headed for India at the age of 18 and by chance ended at the Kumbha mela on the Ganges at Varnasi and Allahabad.

There I met many Holy men and one amazing looking swami just looked at me for about 1 minute and something inside me awoke. I thought I'd just seen God (the Bible image God) in human form. He just gazed at me and walked away. That one encounter I have never forgotten in 41 years.

Shortly after I was given the Bhagavad Gita by another yogi to read. I remembver thinking this is the way to live my life. I became a devotee of Lord Krishna there and then.

In 1967 I met and fell completely in love with Robyn in Australia and we were married Flower Power style 2 weeks later. She had 3 children already and had come out of an abusive marriage.

We studied at the Theosophical Society, she was an expert palmist and astrologer, chanted the Rosary and was always happy first thing in the morning.

We read many Indian masters books and moved to New Zealand to avoid me being sent to Vietnam. There we met Siddha Swarup and the Haribols, a friendly singing, chanting, feast giving group who were probably the first to split from Iskcon. For some years we simply attended their chanting, dancing and feasting. They were happy years and our kids loved it.

By then we had 7 children and I was still only 25 years old. Then we received a magazine about the Gurukul in Vrindavan and wanted to know how to get our 4 boys there.

We were told that it was run by Iskcon, which was the first time we realized there were different groups. So we went to visit Iskcon. Really we knew nothing about Iskcon but Robyn was determined to find out more about the school, for she had a wonderful convent upbringing at Lorettos in Sydney .

It was now 1978 and the energy of Srila Prabhupada was still everywhere. Our eldest son was 9 years old and asked to stay at the temple farm for the weekend, we said OK and we would pick him up at the Sunday feast.

When we got there he had shaved up and wanted to be sent to Vrindavan Gurukul!

At the age of 10 he boarded a plane and flew alone into New Delhi to attend Gurukul. I remember standing at the airport with Robyn and watching that plane leave. Tears were streaming down our faces. Three months later our other 3 boys all left for Vrindavan.

We were told we needed initiation from Bhavananda and that Siddha Swarup was not bonafide. This we did and we became Ulupi and kaunteya and got involved in helping the temple to raise funds to build a new temple room and send 20 devotees to India.

Now please remember in those days Bhavananda was a wonderful, sincere and dedicated Srila Prabhupada servant. I have not seen him in 20 years so I cannot say anymore. I can say that my boys never complained to me about him whilst at Gurukul. Now that they are all grown men they have told me all that occured and Bhavananda was very good to them.

We were successful in our candle making business and in January 1980 we left for India with almost the whole temple for their first trip to Vrindavan.

Ulupi's first 3 children were not interested in Krishna and they all stayed in New Zealand.

We left with our first daughter who was very keen to see her 4 brothers. At Mayapur we were reunited and it was pure ecstacy, they had travelled by bus from Vrindavan to Mayapur. By now they were little vaisnavas and wonderful mrdunga players and singers.

This is how it will be like when we are reunited with young Krsna we thought. It was just sheer bliss for all of us. I remember devotees watching us as we all hugged and smiled and laughed. Just a joyous transcendental moment I'll never forget.

At that festival I remember seeing all eleven 'new gurus' sitting on their 'thrones' and realizing they were all the same age or youger than me. I said to a devotee beside me. "Eleven green bottles sitting on a wall, and if one green bottle should accidentaly fall".

It just looked so obvious what was going to happen. They were just far too young for such an exalted position. One of my young boys came to me later and said he had a dream.

"Peta (Dad) I dreamed of Srila Prabhupada, he came to me and he was trying to get on his vyasasan but was struggling, he turned to me and said, "I can't get on my seat. There are just too many people sitting on it."" I thought, from the heart and dream of a child, the truth appeared.

Instead of returning to New Zealand we decided to remain in Vrindavan. As far as we were concerned we had made it back home Back to Godhead and we were happy to stay there forever.

That decision immediately showed us the other side of Iskcon. That is another story. This is already much longer than I planned.

Apologies for the long intro. I'll give you the rest if you should be interested, sometime in the future.

Radhe Radhe Krsna Krsna.

Sun, 20 Aug 2006 00:18:40 -0400 ALKMIK 1169@/discussions As, we all know noone is perfect. As, I was walking with my mother today and going home on West 42nd Street, and 5th Avenue, in Manhattan, some Bulgarian guy named Tihamoor which means "A Quiet Person" in Russian has handed me a book about Vedic philosophy and Hara Krishna chant card. He charged $1.00 only for it. But, that's not the most important thing. I asked him. Can Hara Krishna heal me from schizophrenia or not today? He said. "Each morning between 5:00-7:00A.M. Eastern U.S.A. time you chant this mantra and you will develop a peace of mind like you never imagined possible. So, my question tonight is? I'm typing this from New York City, New York. Can Krishna remove the punishment that he placed on me in 1994A.D. for whatever karmic reasons it may be or not? I feel that he is punishing me, and that's why sometimes I go crazy like there is no tomorrow.
Sincerely, yours

P.S. I'm new to this forum. So, let's talk, pray, encourage, and explain to one another how Hara Krishna can assist us in all our troubles and forgive us all our sins which I'm positive many of us have anyway.]]>

Mai apni life mein Bhagwan Shri Krishan ki katha sunane aur sunaane ke liye bahut tarsa hoon. Mai apna jeevan safal karne ke liye ek aisi ladki khoj raha hoon jo bhagwan Shri Krishn ki premi bhakt ho. Mai aisi ladki se vivah karna chahta hoon aur uske saath mil kar apna jeevan Bhagwan ki katha varta mai laga kar safal karna chahta hoon.

Agar aap aisi ladki ko jante ho jisake jeevan ka aim mere jeevan ke aim jaisa ho to please send me a message. Mai aapka jeevan bhar aabhari rahunga. Aur ho sakta hai Bhagwan Shri Krishan bhi aapke is sahyog se prasann ho jaye.

Thanks a lot!

I have been following Advaita Vedanta Sanatan Dharm, and Theravada Buddhism for about 5 years, but it is only recently that I have accepted Krishna as an avatar of Vishnu(Brahman). I have read the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita several times, and acknowleded Krishna in my head, but was unable to worship Him due to my Christian upbringing. Now I see Krishna as God incarnate. I sometimes think Krishna and Jesus are the same.

I am new to the Krishna scene and am exploring the possibility of further involvement.
My background training is mostly in Satyananda Yoga which dates back to my first Kundalini experience in 1985.
I have arrived at the door of the Krishna community after much personal struggle and spiritual enquiry.
However, my recent enquiries into Bhakti Yoga and study of the 'Bhagavad Gita, as it is' by AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada have finally given me the philosophical framework I have needed to get back on track with my personal evolution.
Instinctively, I know how I must proceed in regaining my health and balance but I have been lacking the company of devotees for some time.
Please accept my humble involvement on your forum as I strive to grow in your presence.]]>

Association Sat, 08 Apr 2006 15:27:43 -0400 mathuranathadas 1129@/discussions I'm a newbie! Sun, 09 Apr 2006 21:55:01 -0400 Tomasil 1132@/discussions I've just begun (3 months) to study Hindu spirituality via Eknath Easwaran's Bhagavad Gita for Daily Living 3-vol. set. I'm very impressed with his presentations, and have read several other of his books as well.

I come from a Christian religious background, and am very attracted to Hinduism. After studying and practicing Buddhism for a time, I realized that it was not a God-centered "religion" and it was then that I began investigating Hinduism. I've meditated on and off for many years, practiced Hatha yoga. I presently meditate twice a day. Would like to find a group of Sri Krishna followers and join them in meditation and discussions.
I live in Sarasota, FL. Please contact me if you live in this area to let me know if there is a group such as this. or if you might want to get together and discuss starting one... or just discuss.

really need some good association Thu, 12 Jan 2006 03:24:09 -0500 fryskenfry 1090@/discussions I must face it: i cannot resist the material world around me. I am a social being and therefor prone to social behaviour. Where do i find the strength to face the hostile opinions of my direct surroundings? How do i explain to friends, that i am not going to join them for a pub without losing them? Everybody keeps pushing me into things i do not wish for. My parents wish me to get married or to at least get materially succesful (and my assets will ensure a marriage, etc). Nobody understands my reality and meanwhile, I am still far from understanding the reality of Krishna.
I need some close association with good people in my surroundings, but they do not seem to be there.
By the way, I live in the north of the Netherlands. But I cannot afford to travel to places like Amsterdam or Radadesh frequently. And the way things are going, things do not seem to be on the up, because I am becoming more isolated every year. This fact needs some compensation, but I can't seem to see the way out.
It is not, that I am in a pathetic situation, but I would really appreciate some people that I can stick together with, to gain the strength for better service.]]>

Radha Desh. Anyone? Tue, 20 Dec 2005 05:30:29 -0500 Aveshadesh 1082@/discussions
I'm new here and haven't a clue how you play it. I'll be learning about it all no doubt! Along with my request for anyone from Radha Desh, I've given a little profile of myself here. So.....

If anyone remembers me, for good or for bad (I'll just have to take whatever!) from the old days of Bhagavans zone, drop me a line. Sticking my neck out! Chop away! I ask forgiveness for any offences and that the few who might want to judge me harshly I ask them to remember that apart from my offences I did do some good things for the movement in those days and only a couple of desperate things just to survive when I couldn't take it anymore and left to strike out on my own. Didn't do too well though! Lord Krishna's mercy! I always look back on my leaving as a mixture of dull ignorance and disorientation (with the movement but mostly with my own static spiritual development which I was ashamed of).

I am trying to get back into DS by reading BG every day, trying to chant more in spite of my little disability, offering bhoga to Lord Krishna and eating prasad, and praying a lot. It's a small start but I already feel much benefit.

I very much hope that when I quit this world, this will have been my last material body, though at this stage in proceedings I'll most likely come back as ant after ant after ant, and then some! I know that the really pure devotee is happy to stay here birth after birth if Lord Krishna wants, but for now I can't aspire to that high level of uttama adhikari and my desire is to get as far away as possible from this frightening place (no, not London, silly, the material world!).

I have quite a few thoughts on how things are in this material world, and how we can get out of this entanglement. But in the main, from what I've understood, the bottom line is that ultimately it's all down to Lord Krishna's grace, not our own endeavour, that decides if we remain here or go back Home, back to the supreme and blissful transcendental abodes. I know that we can try and influence Lord Krishna by behaving in a way that pleases Him but ultimately, our destination is His decision. Will He want us back? Will we be good association for the other souls there? Quite a few factors in play. I think all we can do is try to be as sincere as sincere can be and want to please Lord Krishna, not ourselves. Isn't that about right?

I hope this forum is a place where one can share Krishna topics. I'm hungry for them! Big thanks and humble obeisances to those who have set this site up!

So that's enough from me. I'll be back!
